Update

Building in the Open

Guiding Light Dawah · 4 min read

Guiding Light Dawah started as daily reminders shared with a small circle. It's growing into something with more moving parts — a website, an account system, and an app in early development — so it felt like the right time to start writing short, honest updates on where things actually stand.

Where we are right now

The foundation layer is the current focus: a real account system (magic-link sign-in, no passwords to manage or leak), a clear privacy policy that spells out exactly what we collect and why, and a site built to be fast, accessible, and genuinely useful rather than just a placeholder while the app is built. None of this is flashy work, but it's the part that has to be solid before anything else is layered on top.

What's next

Once the foundation is in place, the next milestones are the "Start From Scratch" journey and the first version of Source Checker — the two features we consider the actual heart of the project, not just supporting infrastructure. Both are being built with scholarly input from the start, which takes longer but matters more than shipping quickly.

We're deliberately not rushing a v1 that cuts corners on sourcing or sincerity. If that means slower updates for a while, that's a trade-off we're comfortable making.

The goal was never to be first. It was to be right, and to be honest about what we don't yet know.

If you want to follow along, the account system on this site will soon let you opt into occasional email updates — no noise, just genuine milestones. More on that shortly.
